How to care for your Wig

Firstly, wigs don't need to be washed as often as our own hair. Even though mine are made from human hair it’s not your hair and as a result it must be handled with care. I recommend you wash your wig between 4 - 5 weeks. It will be natural to see some colour come out as you wash. Always wash the hair at a cool temperature - too hot can open cuticles and damage the hair. When washing you will need the appropriate products, such as non-sulphate, colour protective shampoos and conditioners. In other words, you need salon quality products to protect the hair and the colour. As a stylist I always say to clients: if you are spending a lot of money on your hair, you want to care for it properly to get your monies worth! I also recommend a nice deep conditioning treatment as well to regenerate the hair. This can be left on for 5-10 minutes. If you can acquire either k18 or an Olaplex hair mask that would be even better.

After the wash, towel-dry it and then leave it to dry naturally, preferably on a wig stand. When styling, use heat defense and any tools you use, at a low temperature. Always use styling products sparingly as this can cause build up and you will then need to wash your wig more often.

If you use wig tape, then it’s best to invest in some tape remover so you can gently remove the tap around the lace without tearing. Always use a muslin cloth and gently remove it so as to not damage your scalp or any hair underneath that you may have.

I do offer a Maintenance Service at £75 which includes washing, treatment and restyling. If you feel your hair needs to be re-toned, or the lace needs replacing this would be a Repair Service which would be at specific price depending on your requirements.
